The 2009 Jamesville Memorial Day Parade

What a beautiful day for a parade! The whole preceding week had been especially nice, letting the residents along the turnpike feel free to plant, weed and in general spruce up the parade route. The Jamesville Fire Department held a ceremony just before up at the new station. Down the hill came all the trucks afterwards, from Fire Departments around the county, giving folks already seated a preview. Fabius Antique Truck

The parade Chairs, Vicki Baker and Linda Crolick, who filled in for Mary Banac, did well with the line up of dignitaries. We had Dewitt Town Supervisor Ed Michalenko, Town Board Members Vicki Baker, Eileen Scruton, Kerry Mannion, and Ken Andrews, who gave County Executive Joanie Mahoney a ride. Also parading were County Legislators Lovie Winslow, William Kinne and William Meyer. Al Stirpe, Joan Christensen and William Magnarelli joined from the NYS Assembly, NYS Senator Dave Valesky, Senator John DeFrancisco, US Congressman Dan Maffei and even Governor Patterson sent a representative! The kids (and adults) had plenty of candy thrown or handed by generous paraders. Everyone cheered for the Kiltie band as it marched and played.Kilties!Town Councilor Irene Scruton

The ceremony at the school was well attended. Stirring patriotic songs were sung by the choir from the Church of Latter Day Saints. The V.F.W. signaled the ending with a 21 gun salute and the playing of TAPS.
